Labor Day Recap

There’s no better way to end the summer than with a long, holiday weekend. I had no plans for any vacations, or really even any set items on my schedule for the entire weekend..I just planned on winging the entire thing. And it was perfect. Sometimes being completely free and up for anything leads to great experiences and fun times with friends! (Disclaimer: get ready for a picture overload).

On Friday afternoon, a coworker and I jumped in a cab right to the west side and headed toward The Frying Pan – a great outdoor bar right on the water. In fact – literally on the water. It’s on a huge boat. The sun was gleaming, I was SERIOUSLY regretting wearing my new jeans from Ann Taylor (#holyhot), and we had Coronas in the sunshine. Not a shabby start to the weekend!

Their crab cake was absolutely delicious, and I couldn’t get over the presentation of the dish..especially considering it was “bar food”! A definite recommendation if you find yourself there before they close next month.

Saturday morning involved an early rise to meet friends in Penn Station to catch a train to Long Beach. We were on the beach before 11am, and the weather was beautiful. I of course got a sunburn, but it was quite worth it. Believe it or not, I hadn’t made it to the beach ALL summer, so I was beyond thrilled to finally swim in the ocean. I LOVE swimming in the waves!

My beach attire (aside from the bikini, obviously): tote from Banana Republic, shirt from Francesca’s, shorts from Old Navy, and Raybans. It was an orange themed day!
Dinner was at The Beach House, and I had sliders and the above ceviche, which was great. I tried to sneak in as much seafood as I could all weekend. (Mission completed)! We had a few drinks at The Inn after and then all collapsed on a train after a very long day in the sun.
On Sunday, I explored the East Village and took a bunch of photos before the afternoon rain came along. I love visiting neighborhoods that I don’t live in as much as I can, especially since I keep toying with the idea of moving. I’ve been on the Upper East Side for almost five years now, and I’ve loved every minute, but I think a new neighborhood is calling my name. (All suggestions are very welcome)!

One of my favorite things to photograph in the city is homes – and doorways. There are so many beautiful townhouses all over this island, and I love seeing how people choose to display their house..and what color they pick for their front door! I’ll always be partial to brick with a hunter green door, since it reminds me of my home on Long Island. This house below is one of my favorites.

As the sign says, this house was built in 1864! There is so much history in this city, and sometimes everyone is so caught up in the present moment and rushing around that we forget how much has happened in NYC before our time. (#slowdown) It’s incredible when you stop to think about all the memories and secrets this city holds.
My afternoon outfit once the rain hit: J.Crew shirt (on sale AND 25% off..hurry!), Piperlime vest (sold out but Old Navy has a very similar one), AG jeans, and Hunter boots (20% off right now)!
Sunday night was dedicated to a girls’ night out, and we brought a group to 1Oak. Long (very long), fun night. This outfit is a bit wild (especially considering I was prepped out in J.Crew and Hunter boots hours before), but it’s always fun to stretch your boundaries. And I certainly did here. A very NYC nightlife kind of outfit.

My night-time outfit: dress from BCBGeneration (previously blogged here and on sale here for SO cheap), necklace from Bauble Bar, and shoes from Zara.

Monday was all about relaxing (#tvandpinterestallday), and I had a nice dinner to wrap up the long weekend at The Penrose, which is one of my favorite spots on the Upper East Side. (See my previous post on The Penrose here).

Quite a myriad of activities this weekend for me. I hope everyone else enjoyed their last official summer weekend. Happy fall..time for layering!!
