Dream (Holiday) Dresses

Nov 26 2014
The holidays are the best time (and excuse) to find an amazingly gorgeous dress – and as expected, they often come with an amazingly high price tag. This time of year is very busy, as I have my birthday, our corporate holiday party (which I sing at), other festive parties, a wedding, and Christmas. And New Years too, I guess! So – I always look to find a great dress for the month to wear to as many events as I can. And let’s be serious here..I usually wear the dress to multiple events..I just won’t post too many pictures, otherwise people will start to discover how much of a repeat offender I am. #imonlyhuman
I was in Lord & Taylor the other day, and to be honest, I hadn’t planned on looking for a dress just yet, but I decided to take a peek at their selection to see if anything caught my eye. Instant disaster. I found and fell in love with two COMPLETELY different dresses, and I probably stood in the dressing room for an hour changing from one to the other – just staring and trying to decide which I liked better.
The sequin dress above is by Badgley Mischka, and it’s nothing short of breath-taking. The back is obviously the focal point, and it’s simply stunning. They have a full-length version as well, but I tried on the cocktail version, which hits right above the knee. It fit me like a glove, which is what I was NOT hoping for..look at that price tag. Eek. (And take a peek at the front of the dress! Nice, simple neckline to balance out the back). And as for the color? I’m Irish. Green wins every time. Especially around Christmas!
The second dress I fell in love with is a lace cape dress from BCBGMaxazria, and it’s the perfect shade of red for the holiday season. I’ve been obsessed with any type of cape recently, and I fell in love with this dress the second I tried it on. Another disaster, because it fit me perfectly. (Sidenote: I really don’t like the shoes they paired it with on the model! Could have done so much better). This dress has such a different look from the sequin one above, but I love it just as much. I’d likely wear it to Christmas with black tights and a black pump..or perhaps a nude shoe instead. Who knows! Love it either way. I’m also wondering what it would look like with pants – and use it as a jacket. (Sounds like I need to play dress-up, huh)?
Confession: I may or may not have COMPLETELY splurged and purchased one of the above dresses as an early birthday present to myself. Stay tuned for posts on Instagram and upcoming outfit posts to see which one I got! (#squeal)
